Concrete Flooring Maintenance

Concrete flooring is a new trend found all over. From basements to commercial establishments, people are enjoying the low maintenance, durable, modern look it brings. Just like any floor surface, maintenance is needed. Here are some tips to follow to ensure long-lasting concrete flooring:

Concrete Flooring Maintenance Tips

A daily sweep to remove dust, debris and dirt will go a long way to preventing long-term build up issues. Sometimes it’s easier to overlook a little bit of dust under our feet when we don’t have enough time to do something about it, but it only takes a few minutes to take care of the mess in order to avoid larger problems down the road.

Clean up spills immediately as this can stain or damage the floors.

Remove sticky items such as gum and stickers immediately. If there is any residue left behind, be sure to carefully to remove without using sharp objects.

Regular mopping is very important. While there are many cleaners on the market advertised as safe for concrete flooring, be very selective. Use only pH neutral material as a cleaning solution. Avoid using ammonia, citrus cleaner, bleaches, pine based cleaners and vinegar, as they are not pH neutral materials. For most mopping, a damp mop is best. We recommend looking into the O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop, Bucket Floor Cleaning System or the Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate Spray Mop Premium. Both products are designed for flooring types like concrete and are safe to use.

If the concrete flooring seems to be losing its shine, it might be time to polish it. Concrete floor polish can be purchased at most stores such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Amazon.
