More and more homeowners are having bamboo flooring installed in their homes especially on the west coast. Similar to wood floor surfaces like hardwood and engineered wood, these floors need to be cared for regularly to prevent damage to the finish. Here are some tips to follow

Image result for bamboo flooringSweep or vacuum your bamboo flooring regularly. Debris can scratch your floors over time. A simple broom or a vacuum like the Dyson V10 will work greatly on your flooring.

Don’t use anything other than wood floor targeted cleaning products on your bamboo floors. Those might include commercial cleaners, as well as DIY solutions suitable for hardwood flooring and the type of finish it was coated with. If you spill water on the floors, promptly wipe it up to avoid irreversible water-related damage such as warping

Use furniture pads if you have heavy furniture or chairs.

Do not wear hard-soled shoes on your bamboo flooring – especially high heels. These can dent and scratch the wood.

Do not use steam cleaners on bamboo flooring. There are some products on the market that claim to be safe for wood, but we strongly advise against using them.

When you have pets, be mindful to have their nails trimmed. When they have accidents, please clean up immediately.
